- What does Nine Iron do?
- Nine Iron is a golf club-picker app for iPhone and Apple Watch. It tells you which club to hit for the distance in front of you, using the numbers you have logged yourself.
- Is there a subscription?
- None is planned. Nine Iron is planned as a one-time purchase with a 7-day free trial. The price isn't set yet.
- When can I get it?
- It's coming to the App Store and isn't out yet.
- Does Nine Iron need an account?
- No. There are no accounts, and your numbers stay on your phone and watch.
- What if I don't know my distances yet?
- Pick a starting level and the app gives you an answer right away. Those numbers are labeled as a starting point, and your own logged shots replace them.
- Why separate numbers for the course, the range and the bay?
- The same club can travel a different distance off real turf, off a range ball and off a bay mat. Averaging them makes every answer a little wrong, so Nine Iron keeps them apart. If a place has no shots yet, the app estimates from your other clubs and labels the number as estimated.
- Does it come with course maps?
- Not built in. You add a course by name and set each green by standing on it, and that saved point keeps working with no data connection. A free OpenStreetMap search is an optional extra, and it can be unreliable.
- Do I need an Apple Watch?
- No. The iPhone app works alone. The watch adds the club, a quick shot log, your score and a golf workout that keeps GPS running.
- Can I use it in a tournament?
- Competition mode hides club picks and shows distance only, designed to help you follow Rule 4.3. Check your competition's rules, because you're responsible for what you use.
- Does it track shots automatically?
- No. You log shots yourself on your phone or watch, or measure one with GPS. If you want automatic tracking, see our comparison with apps that do it.
- Does my swing video get uploaded?
- No. The review runs on your phone and the video isn't sent anywhere. Filming is only for yourself or people who said yes, and a parent decides for a child.
- How accurate are the distances?
- They're estimates. GPS accuracy depends on your device and surroundings, and bay target distances are ones seen on venue signs, which differ between venues.
- Where will it be sold?
- It won't be offered in the European Union, European Economic Area or United Kingdom for now.
